Jaisa Emerson joins head coach Jody Long and company as an assistant for the Northeast Mississippi Community College softball team for the fourth consecutive season in 2016.
Emerson works directly with the Tigers' pitchers. Alyssa Vanlandingham thrived under her watch last season and signed a NCAA Division I scholarship with the University of Tennessee at Martin after amassing a 2.20 earned run average (ERA) with 12 complete games.
She directly contributed to Chelsea Buntin's stellar freshman campaign in 2014. Buntin compiled an ERA of 3.02 with 104 strikeouts to earn the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division most valuable player award.
Northeast's hurlers compiled a team ERA of 3.40 and struck out 200 batters that year. They tossed 21 complete games in 288.1 innings under the tutelage of Emerson.
Prior to her role as an assistant for the Tigers, Emerson helped Northeast complete one of its most successful seasons in program history during the 2012 campaign.
Emerson guided the Tigers to a school record 17 wins inside the MACJC North Division. However, it was the postseason where Emerson made the most of her time in the circle.
Northeast parlayed its playoff berth into an appearance in the MACJC state championship game against Jones County Junior College and a third place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament at Clinton’s Traceway Park.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native racked up on individual honors during her sophomore year. She was named to both the NJCAA All-Region 23 and the MACJC All-State teams in addition to earning the MACJC North Division most valuable player award.
Emerson appeared in 43 games for the Tigers in 2012 and saw action as both a pitcher and at the designated player position in the batting order.
During her time on the mound, Emerson tossed 144 innings and allowed just 43 earned runs. She limited the opposition to a total of 110 hits on the year and only 34 free passes by walks.
Emerson's 143 strikeouts are the fourth most in a single season in school history and her 15 wins during the year are also fourth all-time for the Tigers.
At the plate, she was 37 for 110 with 10 doubles, 23 RBIs and 20 runs scored. Emerson picked up a .424 on base percentage while drawing 18 walks, one hit by pitch and three sacrifices.
Emerson was a tough out for her opponents in the batters box. She struck out just five times in 132 overall plate appearances, which is an average of one strike out for every 26.4 times at bat.
In the field, Emerson garnered a .906 fielding percentage with just five errors in her 43 games for the Tigers.
Before venturing to the City of Hospitality, Emerson was a standout pitcher at Fairfield (Ohio) High School. She was named The Journal-News Butler County Pitcher of the Year for the second time in her varsity career as a senior with 233 stikeouts and a phenomenal 0.60 ERA.
Emerson set most of Fairfield's school pitching records and finished with a 70-28 career record and a 0.83 ERA. She still holds the Lady Indians' all-time marks for complete games at 90 and strikeouts with 480.
