Booneville, Miss.,-- Former Northeast Mississippi Community College standout safety Brynden Trawick found success at the next level at Troy University and was recently named to the All-Sun Belt Conference First Team Defense.
Trawick is a 6-3, 230-pound safety from Marietta, Ga., who started his career at Sprayberry High School where he was ranked among the nation's top safeties by Scouts, Inc. (No. 40), Rivals.com (No. 64) and Scout.com (No. 68) as well to the SuperPrep's All- Dixie Team and PrepStar's All-Southeast Region.
In 2007 Trawick was also selected as Sprayberry's Defensive Player of the Year after recording 69 tackles (51 solos, 18 assists) and an interception as a senior and recovered two fumbles and blocked two extra-point attempts while accounting for more than 600 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns as a senior.
After graduation, Trawick inked with Michigan State University and during the 2008 season he was redshirted and then as a reshirt freshman in 2009 Trawick saw action in five games where he posted two tackles – one each against Minnesota and Michigan.
However, Trawick decided to transfer -- due to personal reasons -- and brought his talents to Booneville, under the direction of head coach Ricky Smither in 2010.
While at Northeast, Trawick started all nine games for the Tigers during the 2010 season and tallied six pass break ups and one interception, which he returned 67 yards for a touchdown against Holmes Community College. Trawick recorded 58 total tackles -- nine tackles for loss along with four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Trawick also spent some time on offense and had 29 return yards along with two receptions for seven yards.
Trawick transferred to Troy University after one season at Northeast and made an immediate impact with the Trojans and in the Sun Belt Conference.
During the 2011 season, Trawick led the Trojans and the Sun Belt with 123 tackles and was named second team All-Sun Belt and the Sun Belt Conference's leading tackler by a tackle per game.
Trawick was the only player in the Sun Belt to average double-digit tackles on the season (10.2) and finished 16th in the NCAA with his tackles-per-game total, sixth with 75 solo tackles and 20th with 123 total tackles. He also recorded double-digit tackles in six of his 12 starts and finished with a fumble recovery, two pass-breakups and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Trawick, who was a second team All-Sun Belt selection last year, finished his senior season with 83 tackles, three interceptions and four pass breakups. He intercepted Sun Belt Player of the Year Ryan Aplin – one of just four on the year by Aplin – and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown. Trawick earned Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording 15 tackles, including a pair for a loss, at North Texas.
Trawick was rewarded for all his hard work at the end of his senior campaign as was one of nine Troy players who were named to the 2012 Sun Belt All-Conference Team, which was released Wednesday, December 5, by the league office.
"He has been a tremendous player for us over the past few years," said Troy's Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs coach Jeremy Rowell. "Brynden came in and made an impact on our team and I think he will have a shot at the next level."
