BRAGG’S HOMERS SENDS HOLMES HOME FOR TIGERS SWEEP

Booneville, MS – Northeast took their first sweep of MACCC action this past Tuesday when they grabbed a pair of wins over the Bulldogs with freshman Kendall Bragg hammering out a home run in each game led by a solo in game one's 9-5 win before launching a two-run homer in game two for a 9-4 win to finish the sweep.

The Tigers found their rhythm at the plate early in game one with Jeoreia Henry getting Northeast on the board with a 2-RBI single to left center followed by a fielder's choice to bring home Sophie Gant for a 3-1 lead to open the contest. Bragg's homer in the second inning grew the lead to three with Gant stepping back up to the plate for an RBI double to make it a 5-1 ball game entering the third. Holmes responded with a bomb of their own past the left field fence in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 5-4 entering the fifth where a two-run homer from Gant and a solo dinger by AB McKay doubled up the score on the Bulldogs 8-4. A final run for the Bulldogs in the top of the sixth increased their total to five while a sacrifice fly by Henry allowed Leah Walker to round the bases before Emma Abrams finished off game one with a pair of strikeouts to secure the win.

Key Stats from Game 1:

  • Abrams recorded her 11th complete game of the 2026 season plus her 10th win while striking out six batters, throwing 96 strikes in game one.
  • Gant went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate including a double and a homer to add on 3-RBI
  • Bragg and McKay each recorded a solo home run in game one and Henry added on 3-RBI

Errors cost the Tigers early in game two with Holmes scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first for a two-score lead that was cut in half by Bailey Houston who took one for the team with a HBP with bases loaded and advance Maggie Parchman to home. Northeast tied up the score in the bottom of the fourth with a fly out to center field, allowing Walker to advance home on the throw to make it 2-2 entering the fifth to which the Bulldogs answered with another two scores to retake the lead 4-2. A two-run cannon shot from Bragg in the bottom of the inning once again locked up the score before Gant gave the Tigers the lead with an RBI single for a 5-4 lead entering the sixth. Northeast utilized the lackluster pitching in their final appearances at the plate where three straight walks allowed the Tigers to round the bases and add to their total with a sacrifice fly from Gant sending Bragg home for the final run of the game to complete the conference sweep.

Key Stats from Game 2:

  • Sophie Gant recorded her 11th win of the season, pitching six of the seven innings and striking out a pair of batters and recording 3-RBI at the plate
  • Bragg went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of runs and 3-RBI added in part by her two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth

Northeast now improves to 26-6 overall on the season with a conference record of 3-5. The Tigers will be on the road for their next three matchups with a doubleheader at Coahoma this Thursday followed by a Top 25 matchup against #3 Copiah-Lincoln on Saturday.
