NORTHEAST REACHES 30 WINS WITH SWEEP OVER DELTA

Booneville, MS – Tiger Softball wrapped up their six-game road stint this past Tuesday with trip to Mississippi Delta where outstanding pitching efforts from Sophie Gant and Emma Abrams silenced the Trojans with Gant striking out seven batters in game one for an 8-2 win followed by Abrams who struck out seven as well for a 10-3 win to finish off Delta and reach the 30 win mark on the season. 

Delta struck first in game one with an early run to take the lead but were halted by Gant who struck out three straight batters in the bottom of the second to keep the score at 1-0 Trojans. Leah Walker locked up the score in the top of the third with an RBI double to left center to drive in Kendall Bragg before Gant drove in the game leading run with an RBI double to drive in Walker for a 2-1 lead. 

Walker hit a leadoff homer in the top of the fifth to extend the lead for Northeast to two while a double from Bailey Houston and a pair of walks loaded the bases for Adin Shelton who hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Houston home for a 4-1 lead. A solo home run by Delta but them back on the board to trim the lead for the Tigers to two heading into the sixth where a 2-RBI homer from Bragg kicked off a four-run inning for Northeast with Houston getting a RBI double before scoring a run herself off a sac fly from AB McKay to finish off an 8-2 win. 

Key Stats from Game 1:

  • Gant recorded her 13th win of the 2026 season in a complete game where she struck out seven batters, allowed only three hits, and recorded 95 pitches with 60 of them being strikes. 
  • Houston went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles, two runs, and an RBI
  • Walker went 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs, a double, a solo home run, and two RBI

Gant opened game two with a 2-RBI double to right field that allowed Shelton and Houston to score for a quick 2-0 lead for the Tigers before giving up three runs in the second to Delta to trail entering the third inning 3-2. A leadoff single from Gant and a walk by McKay put runners in scoring position for Northeast with the Tiger's powerhouse hitter over the past week Bragg stepping back up and hammering out a 2-RBI double to retake the lead 4-3. Abrams entered the circle in the bottom of the third and immediately found her rhythm, striking out the first batter she faced in the third and striking a pair out in the fourth. 

Ava Elliott recorded her second home run of the season with a solo bomb out to left field in the top of the fifth for a two-run lead while an error in the sixth from Delta allowed Walker and Houston to add to the Tigers' total. Jeoreia Henry drove in a pair to close out the inning with a single up the middle to bring McKay and Gant around the bases for an 8-3 lead entering the bottom of the sixth where Abrams struck out another pair at the plate to head into the final inning with zero hits allowed. A final run scored in the top of the seventh courtesy of an RBI single from Shelton put the score at 10-3 where the Trojans were unable to respond with Abrams once again recording a pair of strikeouts to complete the sweep. 

Key Stats from Game 2:

  • Abrams pitched in 5.0 innings to record her 12th win of the 2026 season with seven strikeouts and allowing zero hits or runs. 
  • Bragg went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored, a double, a triple, and two RBI
  • Gant went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored, a double, and two RBI

Northeast now improves to 30-8 overall on the 2026 season while evening their conference record at 7-7 to finish their six-game road stint. The Tigers will be back at home on Friday in a Top 25 matchup against #17 Hinds with the doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM at the Plex.
