Booneville, MS – Chloe Skelton not only tallied up home run numbers over the past week but also earned multiple honors with the MACCC naming her softball player of the week on Tuesday and the NJCAA announcing her as the national player of the week on Wednesday.
Over the course of two games last week, Skelton went 5-for-6 at the plate for a batting average of .833 to go with three runs, a double, two home runs, and three RBI. In the play-in game of the Region 23 Tournament against Meridian she went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs and a double while also hammering out a solo bomb to right field to help lead the Tigers to a 9-1 win and keep their season alive. Skelton followed up with another home run in Northeast's game against Pearl River to score two runs for the Tigers and make it three straight games with a home run.
Overall, on the 2026 season Skelton has recorded a .426 batting average and an OBP of .523 with 60 hits, 42 runs, 15 doubles, 16 home runs, and 50 RBI. Her 4-for-4 performance against the Eagles was the second time she has put up those numbers this season with the previous being against Columbia State on February 17th where one of her hits resulted in a grand slam for the Tigers.
Skelton is the fourth player for Northeast to earn MACCC weekly honors with Adin Shelton and Kendall Bragg named player of the week earlier in the season and Emma Abrams named pitcher of the week on April 7th. She is also the second Tiger this season to earn NJCAA Nartional Player of the Week with Bragg being named on April 1st and Skelton now joining the ranks as of May 6th.
#20 Northeast softball had an impressive run in the Region 23 Tournament with a 9-1 win in the play-in game against #18 Meridian before eliminating #13 Itawamba and #6 Jones then fell to #5 Pearl River in the championship matchup. Their run helped improve their overall record to 41-16 overall for their third 40+ win season in the past four years including back-to-back from the 2025 season.
