Booneville, MS – Northeast baseball grabbed another series win on the season by taking the final two games of a three-game series against Parkland at the Plex. After dropping game one 12-5 to the Cobras, the Tigers bounced back in a thrilling doubleheader with Northeast securing a 15-12 win in game two of the series before clinching game three with an 8-7 win off a game winning RBI single from Brett Haas.
It was a rocky start to the series with the Tigers falling to Parkland 12-5 in game one despite some big hits from Northeast. Chase Ballard recorded an RBI double in the third inning and Gavin Puckett hit a home run in the fifth to put the Tigers on the board.
Day two of the series started off like the first with Northeast falling behind 11-0 entering the bottom of the third where finally the bats started to connect for the Tigers. Brody Winemiller hit a 2 RBI double to right center and Colin Flurry connected on an RBI double to give Northeast four runs in the third inning.
Another six runs in the fourth capped by a 2 RBI double to left field from Drew Hollimon cut the deficit down to 11-9 while another 2 RBI double from Winemiller in the fifth gave the Tigers their first lead of the series. That quickly grew thanks to a 2 RBI triple to right center from Flurry to help grab the massive comeback win.
In the final game of the series, it was the Tigers who stormed ahead first with Trae Cagle sending a bomb beyond the left field fence to score three runs early on while a bases clearing double from Flurry made it a 6-1 lead after the second.
The Cobras fought back to tie up the score off a pair of home runs of their own that locked the score up at 7-7 entering the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs on the board, a runner on third and Haas up to bat. The freshman infielder stepped up to the plate as a pinch hitter and connected on his first at bat of the series to drive in Austin Spears for a walk off RBI single to win both the game and the series.
