NORTHEAST BASEBALL TAKES DOWN COAHOMA AND HINDS

Booneville, MS – Northeast hosted a round robin tournament on Tuesday where they took home a pair of run rule wins on the afternoon with a 13-3 win over Coahoma in five innings and an 11-1 win over Hinds in six. 

First on the scoreboard was the visiting Tigers of Coahoma with one run after the first before Northeast responded with eight runs in the bottom of the second that was capped off by a two-run homer from Hank Eaton for an 8-1 lead. Kieran Coleman and Colin Flurry grew the lead out to double figures off a pair of 2-RBI singles to put the home Tigers ahead 13-2 to force a run rule win after holding Coahoma to just one more score in the top of the fifth.

Key Stats vs. Coahoma:

  • Eaton recorded a two-run homer with two runs while striking out three batters on the mound in four innings to earn the win. 
  • Flurry went two-for-three at the plate with three RBI with a single in the bottom of the second and the third. 

Following their win in game one of the afternoon, Northeast once again ran up the score with Conner McKnatt sending a dinger out to right field to push the Tigers ahead 6-0 after three. After a solo homer from Hinds in the top of the fourth the Eagles were unable to find their way back on the scoreboard with Northeast adding to their totals off a group of RBI singles from Coleman, Eaton, and Cooper Davis in the sixth to end the game early in another run rule win.

Key Stats vs. Hinds:

  • Both Austin Spears and Eaton went two-for-two at the plate with Spears recording 3-RBI and one run while Eaton added 2-RBI and two runs. 
  • Matthew Olsteen pitched in five innings with three strikeouts as the winning pitcher.
