Lady Tigers Stand Strong on the Road to Grab Win Over Jones

Booneville, MS – Northeast grabbed a 51-47 win this past Monday over Jones on the road where a defensive showcase by the Lady Tigers was the key to taking down the Bobcats who were held to 24% from the field.

Both sides held strong on defense through the first ten minutes with neither side able to find a rhythm offensively. After eight minutes of battling through Jones' defense, it was Maniya Kirksey fresh off her record performance a week ago who answered the call. She cashed in a triple to get Northeast on the board and sliced through the lane for a layup to put the Lady Tigers ahead 5-3 after the first.

Offense started to flow for both sides in the second with the lead changing back and forth. Christina Fulton and Nakyiah Walker added quick scores before Tyquashia McMillian made good on an and-one opportunity to keep Northeast in reach at halftime down 22-19.

A pair of layups from McMillian out of the break plus a three from Baylon Middleton kept the score even while a mid-range jumper from Alaysha Williams pushed Northeast in front 37-32 entering the fourth. Fulton knocked in a jumper with Kirksey driving in for two to keep the lead alive followed by Middleton's second three of the contest kept the momentum in favor of the Lady Tigers the rest of the way for a 51-47 win.
